Toronto Star Amateur Photo Contest - 2003

The Etobicoke Camera Club proudly congratulates club member Diane Sawatzky on her award as a Grand Prize Winner in the 2003 Toronto Star Amateur Photo Contest.

Diane was travelling in France when she took this picture.   "I don't know who she is.  We had just arrived in the little village.  It's very, very small.  I was just walking through.  She caught my eye. The pose. Her look. Her position. The background. Very simple. She was just very pretty."

One of the judges, Star Photographer, Richard Lautens said, "That's just a magical picture. That's a picture that 99.9 percent of the population would never take.  Everyone wants their kids smiling, looking up at them."

Diane has been a member of the Etobicoke Camera Club since 1985 and has served as President and in a number of other positions on the board.
